Ralph E. Johnson Receives National Award from Omicron Delta Kappa

Lexington, VA (08/12/2022) — Ralph E. Johnson, a resident of Columbia, Maryland, is a 2022 recipient of Omicron Delta Kappa's (ODK) Eldridge W. Roark Jr. Meritorious Service Award.

Johnson is a 1982 graduate student initiate of the Florida State University Circle (chapter) of ODK. He presently serves the Washington Adventist University (WAU) Circle as its circle coordinator. During Johnson's tenure, the WAU received Circle of Distinction honors in 2017. Professionally, he is the vice president of the Center for Student Life at WAU. In addition, Johnson has been a member of the Scholarship Review and Selection Committee for ODK. His professional activities include service as president of the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA), treasurer of the SACSA Foundation, and chairman of the Alpha Phi Alpha Education Foundation Board of Directors. Johnson is past chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and he is the current president of the Council for the Advancement of Standards (CAS) in Higher Education.

Johnson earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and his master's degree from Florida State University. He completed his doctorate at the University of South Carolina - Columbia in 1993.

Omicron Delta Kappa Society, the National Leadership Honor Society, was founded in Lexington, Virginia, on December 3, 1914. A group of 15 students and faculty members established the Society to recognize and encourage leadership at the collegiate level. The founders established the ODK Idea-the concept that individuals representing all phases of collegiate life should collaborate with faculty and others to support the campus and community. ODK's mission is to honor and develop leaders; encourage collaboration among students, faculty, staff, and alumni; and promote ODK's leadership values of collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, scholarship, and service on college and university campuses throughout North America. The Society's national headquarters are located in Lexington, Virginia.
