Texas A&M University-Commerce Awarded Charter for National Honor Society
Lexington, VA (04/25/2023) — Texas A&M University-Commerce's petition to establish a circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, was approved recently by the organization's Board of Trustees. Jamie F. Bouldin, ODK's director for membership services, will preside at the chartering ceremony scheduled for April 28, 2023.
Sandra B. Thurmond, chair of ODK's Board of Trustees, made the following announcement, "Omicron Delta Kappa proudly welcomes Texas A&M University-Commerce as our newest campus circle. Student, faculty, alumni, and staff leaders may now be recognized for exhibiting ODK's positive vision and ideals within their campus and community. In addition, student members will be eligible to participate in the Society's national opportunities, including scholarships, internships, campus grants, and leadership development programs."
Mark J. Rudin, president of the university, commented on the school's excitement about receiving a charter from Omicron Delta Kappa. He said, "The ODK organizational values of collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, scholarship and service align perfectly with the strategic priority of student preparedness in the university's strategic plan. While our university celebrates academic excellence in many ways, the presence of Omicron Delta Kappa on our campus will motivate our best students to reach even higher."
Texas A&M University-Commerce's charter group of more than 50 individuals will include faculty, staff, administrators, and student leaders as founding members of the Omicron Delta Kappa circle.
Omicron Delta Kappa Society, the National Leadership Honor Society, was founded in Lexington, Virginia, on December 3, 1914. A group of 15 students and faculty members established the Society to recognize and encourage leadership at the collegiate level. The founders established the ODK Idea-the concept that individuals representing all phases of collegiate life should collaborate with faculty and others to support the campus and community. ODK's mission is to honor and develop leaders; encourage collaboration among students, faculty, staff, and alumni; and promote ODK's leadership values of collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, scholarship, and service on college and university campuses throughout North America. The Society's national headquarters are located in Lexington, Virginia.
